“It is not right to evaluate our work only according to the results”

Head Coach Gianni De Biasi and the national team player Emin Mahmudov shared their opinions in the press conference held on the eve of the Azerbaijan vs Qatar international friendly match to take place at Baku Olympic Stadium tomorrow:

“It is not right to evaluate our work only according to the results”
Gianni De Biasi: (Azerbaijan national team head coach): “It is not right to evaluate our work only according to the results. Our main goal was to develop the football movement. We created conditions for this and invited young players to the national team.  We know what we want.  We fought in all matches until the last minute. We want to fight in all matches. We can create difficulties for any opponent.  During this period, about 15 players made their debut in the national team. This is a difficult and risky period.  It should be noted that most of the players are young.  I see development in the team.  Although the opponents are stronger than us, we played with them on equal terms. We need experience in development. There will be good results in future. We faced many difficulties.  Due to the pandemic and the war, we could not hold our home games in Baku. We received red cards in both games against Luxembourg. In addition, at some points, many important players could not help the team due to their injuries.

This may be my last press conference. Nothing is known yet. That's why I started the press conference with these thoughts. In general, I talked about what happened in 15 months. We will play our 20th match tomorrow. This is not a big number. Today I can say that I already know the players very well”.

Emin Mahmudov: “It’s not pleasant to us to lose every match. We have not been able to win for a long time. People write to us about the national team's games and express their dissatisfaction on the social networks”.
