The head coach of the Azerbaijani national futsal team Vitali Borisov shared his opinions after the match (3:3) with the Swedish national team held at the Baku Sports Palace within the framework of the main stage of EURO-2026:
“We started the game well and scored a goal. Just we filled the 5 foul limit early in the first half. After that, we couldn’t show our game, we tried to be careful. Because within 12 minutes, a 10-meter penalty would have been assigned due to an additional penalty. We performed better in the second half. I liked the players' performance. We couldn’t use the scoring episodes. The opponent played with the 5th player and scored 2 goals. We need to work hard on this. Unfortunately, you can’t spend much time on this during the national team’s training camp. The players fought well, “struggled” until the end. The referee made the wrong decision on the second goal, which the opponent scored. Although the ball came out of the opponent’s hands, they put the ball into the game from the outfield and scored a goal. We deserved the victory in this match.”
The head coach said that they are building a new team: "I enjoy working with local futsal players, but we have enough shortcomings. We have older futsal players in our team. They will also finish their careers in a few years. Therefore, we need to find young players and train them."
