Head coach of Azerbaijan national team Aykhan Abbasov expressed his views during the post-match press conference after the friendly match against Malta (0-2) played at Haladás Stadium in Szombathely, Hungary:
“It was a disappointing defeat. But my team fought during the match for 90 minutes. Khayal Aliyev's injury disrupted our game plan. Despite this, we created many scoring opportunities. However, we needed to evaluate the opportunities and maintain this pace. I said that we would take risks in the friendly matches. Because this is our last training session before the UEFA Nations League and we want to watch all the players. Although I am happy about the scoring opportunities, we are sad that we did not use them. I believe that we will be able to evaluate these opportunities in the match against San Marino.”
Note that Azerbaijan national team will play the next friendly match against San Marino at the same stadium on June 9.
