As a continuation of the matter of the head coach discussed at the meeting of the AFFA Executive Committee held on June 3, 2024, the candidacy of the well-known Portuguese expert Fernando Santos was nominated for the position of the head coach of the Azerbaijan national football team.
During the discussions, the need to form a strong, competitive and successful national team, as well as the development of children's football in our country, was noted.
In this regard, it was decided to appoint Fernando Santos as the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team, taking into account his rich experience as one of the world's well-known football experts, his successes during his professional career, including the European championship with the Portuguese team.
Considering that the process will not be short-term, but will cover a certain period, the Portuguese specialist is given the goal of forming a competitive team and successfully performing at the qualifying stage of EURO 2028.
