Agil Nabiyev, head coach of Azerbaijan Under-16 team, shared his views with AFFA’s press service after the friendly match (3-2) against Moldova:
“I joined the team yesterday morning, as I was in Slovakia for a few days for the UEFA Pro course. The persistence and character that demonstrated my boys during the match against Moldova is commendable. It is true that there were some gaps in the defense. Despite this, the team managed to show persistence and win in the end. We have a team with great potential and hope for the future. We are achieving good results with both the Under-16 and Under-17 teams. I hope that we will be able to continue this in the qualifying round matches with the Under-17 team. The development of the children is in sight. If we have more trainings, we can develop faster and achieve great success.”
Head coach also explained the reason why the team conceded a goal immediately after taking the lead by two goals: “The reason we conceded a goal immediately after taking the lead was due to a concentration problem. The lack of time hindered us a lot. Since some teams in the leagues did not qualify for the play-off stage, several of our players who played for these teams had not played for a long time. This also led to them not being fully prepared physically. However, I trust my team. Great things can be done with this team in the future.”
Agil Nabiyev said that they will try to win the second friendly match against Moldova on June 21: “We have only one day between the two games. Immediately after yesterday's match, we started working on the children's recovery. We also made as many substitutions as possible during the match so that we could use some of the players in tomorrow's match. Our goal will be to show a fighting game again and win.”
