On February 19, 2025, the regular meeting of the AFFA Executive Committee was held in the SOCAR administrative building.
AFFA President Rovshan Najaf provided information on the agenda of the meeting.
Then a discussion took place on the agenda items.
First, the report of the Professional Football League was heard. Vice-President of the organization Aslan Shahgeldiyev provided information on the progress of the season in the Misli Premier League, as well as in the I and II leagues. He answered questions from the members of the Executive Committee and listened to their suggestions and opinions.
Then the format of the 2025/2026 season in the Azerbaijan Premier League was discussed. It was decided that the next season will consist of 3 rounds (33 rounds) with the participation of 12 teams. The teams that will take part in the games of the third round will be determined by drawing lots. According to the Regulations of the current season, the team that takes the last place will leave the Premier League, and instead of it, 3 teams from the First League will directly enter the higher bracket.
In the 2024/2025 season, the club that takes the last place in League I will move to League II, and the three best teams from League II will directly move to League I. The one-game playoff match will be held on a neutral field between the teams that took 9th place in League I and 4th place in League II. The winning team will get the right to play in the First League. It should be noted that such a system will be applied, since at the end of the current season, 3 teams will move from the First League to the Premier League.
