Aykhan Abbasov, who led Azerbaijan national team to a match against Ukraine at Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium within the 2026 FIFA World Cup European qualifiers, expressed his views during the post-match press conference after the match (1-1):
“Both teams had come from a tough away game. We had made some changes to the squad. I would like to thank our players. We had one day left, no time to train. We focused only on psychological preparation in one day. I would like to thank the fans. They came together and supported the team in a difficult moment. Their support played a big role in this result. The one point won will inspire our football. I am also very happy for Emin Mahmudov, he finally scored the goal he had been dreaming of for a long time. There were many positive moments today”.
He also evaluated the match (1-1) played by the Azerbaijan Under-21 team, which he is the head coach, against Bulgaria within the UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifying round today: “I have watched the match against Bulgaria until the 65th minute. Our players did what we wanted on the pitch. The result of our U-21 team also satisfied us.”
Note that Azerbaijan national team will play the next match away on October 10 against France.
