FC Sabah, Azerbaijan’s representative in the UEFA Champions League, played the second-leg match within the third qualifying round. The Baku-based club hosted the Danish club Aarhus.
After losing the first-leg match in Denmark 1-2, Sabah defeated their opponent 4-0 in the second-leg match at Bank Respublika Arena. The goals for the Azerbaijani side were scored by Veljko Simić (59th minute), Steve Solvet (67th minute), Joy-Lance Mickels (79th minute), and Xander Severina (89th minute).
Thus, in addition to advancing to the play-off round, Sabah has secured a spot in the UEFA Europa League league phase. The Azerbaijani champion's opponent in the play-offs will be the winner of the tie between Red Star (Serbia) and Hapoel (Be'er Sheva, Israel). Hapoel won the first-leg match in Israel 1-0.
Note that the matches for the next round of the Champions League will take place on August 19 and 25.
