Aykhan Abbasov, head coach of Azerbaijan Under-21 team, made a statement to the AFFA press service. He expressed his thoughts on the match against Portugal to be played within the UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifying round:
“The game against Portugal will be our first official match. We will face Portugal away and then Bulgaria at home. Our first opponent is Portugal, a very strong team. They currently have 9 players in the squad from the team that participated in the last European Championship. There are players who play for big clubs. But we are also preparing well for the match. Playing against such big opponents is important for the future of our players. I believe that we will fight well against both Portugal and Bulgaria.”
Note that the match Portugal vs Azerbaijan will be held on September 5 at Barcelos City Stadium and kick off at 22:30 Baku time.
