Member of UEFA Referees Committee, head of UEFA Talent and Mentor Programme, and also a referee observer, Björn Kuipers, will visit Baku at AFFA’s invitation.
The former Dutch football referee will hold a seminar for referees on February 27 at Baku Marriott Boulevard Hotel. Kuipers will share his experience in leadership and match officiating, as well as communication, at the seminar to start at 11:00. The presentation of badges to FIFA referees will take place during the seminar. The closing ceremony of the event will take place at 16:30.
Briefing with Björn Kuipers will be organized at 17:00. Media representatives are invited to the closing ceremony and briefing.
Note that Björn Kuipers started refereeing in 2002 and received the FIFA category in 2006. Kuipers has been in UEFA Elite category from 2009 until his retirement in 2021. Björn Kuipers has officiated at the FIFA World Cup Finals twice (2014, 2018) and the UEFA European Championship Finals three times (2012, 2016, 2020). He has also refereed matches within the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, FIFA Clubs World Cup, and FIFA Confederations Cup many times.
The Dutchman refereed the 2009 UEFA Under-21 Championship final, the 2011 UEFA Super Cup, the 2013 and 2018 UEFA Europa League final, the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup final, the 2014 UEFA Champions League final, the UEFA EURO 2020 final, and was the fourth official during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Björn Kuipers ended his refereeing career after officiating the Dutch Super Cup match between Ajax and PSV on 29 July 2021.
