The Schoolgirls Tournament, organized in cooperation with AFFA and the Ministry of Science and Education, and with the support of UEFA, has started in Lankaran.
The first matches in group E were played with participation of 4 teams competed at Shilavar village secondary school, which was chosen as the center. First, the game took place between Shilavar village secondary school and the Foreign Languages Boarding School gymnasium, then the teams of schools No. 8 and No. 7 played.
The first matches of Group F were organized at Sutamurdov village secondary school with the participation of 4 teams. First, the teams of Sutamurdov and schools No. 4 played, and then the teams of schools No. 10 and 3 played.
At the opening ceremony of the tournament, staff members of AFFA Women's Football Department, leading consultant of the Education Sector for Lankaran city, curator of extracurricular and educational activities Jamil Akhundzada, as well principals of Shilavar and Sutamurdov village secondary schools Elnur Asadli and Kamran Aliyev made speeches and wished success to all participants.
Note that the Schoolgirls Tournament is a pilot project intended for girls aged 7-9. Initially, this season the project is planned to be held in 2 regions - 20 selected public and private schools in Baku and 10 schools in Lankaran. The main goal of organizing the tournament is to create an interest in football among girls from an early age by creating the AFFA U-10 Girls League next season and to attract new football players to the national teams in the lower age group in the future.
